The island of Anafi is not one that many people will have heard of. It is one of the small Cyclades islands, located east of Santorini. It has a population of just a few hundred, and the island is one that is virtually untouched by mass tourism. You won't find large hotel complexes or infrastructure for tourism here - everything is simple and traditional.

The main and only town of the island is Chora which was built on the mountainous slopes at an altitude of approximately 200 meters. You will find a number of footpaths in the village which you can follow and enjoy a journey that almost takes you back in time. The white cube houses are typical of the Cycladic architecture and the lovely churches and small squares create a very beautiful setting.

Visitors to Anafi island can reach the village from the small port of Agios Nikolaos. You can reach Chora by foot in just 20 minutes. Close to the port is the beach of Kleisidi, which is the most popular on the island due to it being so close to the port. Even during the peak summer months, the beach is never too busy, and does not feel crowded. The other popular beach for visitors is that of Agios Nikolaos, which is a nice sandy beach.

Being an island that is small in size, there are just a few sights and places of interest for visitors to Anafi. The two impressive monasteries of Zoodochos Pighi and Panagia Kalamiotissa are worth visiting if you have the chance. There are also some archaeological ruins that are of some interest, such as the remnants of the temple of Anafaios Apollo, which is located close to Chora.
