Folegandros

English Greek

The island of Folegandros is one of the smaller islands of the Cyclades and is located to the south of the island group between the islands of Milos to the west and Sikinos and Ios to the east. The island has approximately 750 residents, and is a very peaceful and quiet destination. It is perfect for those who are looking to avoid the noise and crowds of some of the other more famous islands in Greece.

Sailing in Folegandros

Folegandros is a very authentic Greek island, and the classical Cycladic architecture of the cubic whitewashed houses with colourful gardens sets the scene for your relaxing and enjoyable holidays. The narrow streets and pathways cry out to be explored, and you can really enjoy some walks through the villages, such as the capital town of Chora from where you will be able to find some stunning panoramic views stretching out over the blue waters of the Aegean.

Chora is a very beautiful part of the island to visit and is located at an altitude of 200 meters. It is actually one of the oldest medieval towns in all of the Cyclades and is perfect for exploring. There are several peaceful squares in the town where you can find shade and sit down for a drink or something to eat. The white houses packed close together and the winding pathways will give visitors a real authentic Greek island experience.

The village of Karavostasi is located on the coast and is the harbour for the island. It is a popular destination for visitors to Folegandros and here you will find a number of restaurants and cafe bars, as well as easy access to a number of lovely nearby beaches. The vilage of Ano Meria is located in the northwest of the island and offers visitors a very peaceful lush setting with lots of green fields all around.

If you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing island to enjoy your holidays in Greece, then Folegandros is certainly one that fits the part. It is very beautiful and has some great beaches where you can swim during the summer months. It is not as crowded as some of the other nearby islands, and has a very traditional and authentic appearance.
