Sikinos

English Greek

Sikinos is a small island located between Folegandros and Ios in the Cyclades, and is the perfect destination for those who are looking for a place to enjoy some peace and quiet. Sikinos has a very limited tourism infrastructure, so you certainly won't find find the level of people or crowds that you will on other islands such as Mykonos or Santorini.

The capital town of Chora is located approximately 3km from the port, and was built on the edge of a cliff overlooking the coast. This was so that in the old days the villagers could keep an eye out for pirates and head to the monastery of Zoodohou Pigis to hide during such raids. Today you won't find many pirates, but the village has still maintained its traditional appearance and charm.

Chora is a very small village when compared to others in the Cyclades, but it is still very beautiful and the whitewashed houses and narrow pathways are typical of other islands in the group. The monastery, dating back to the 18th century, is an important part of the village, and from the top of the hill where it is located you can enjoy some very impressive panoramic views.

The port is the main hub for acvitity during the summer months, and here you will find a range of different accommodation, as well as places to eat and drink. The sandy beach situated close to the port is probably the most popular on the island, and is ideal for swimming in the hot summer months. It is an organised beach and is suitable for families or those travelling with young children.

There are a number of interesting sights and places to visit on the island of Sikinos. The ruins of an ancient settlement can be found just outside of the area of Episkopi, while the Folklore Museum is a popular place to stop at, where you can learn more about the history and traditions of the island. If you are looking for a relaxing location to enjoy your holidays in Greece, then Sikinos is the ideal choice for you.
